CHANDIGARH, 15 SEPTEMBER: A delegation of CBM consisting of Sh. Charanjiv Singh, President, CBM and Sh. Baljinder Singh Gujral, General Secretary. CBM accompanied by Sh Arun Sood President BJP today called on Sh Banwari Lal Purohit, Administrator UT Chd cum Governor Punjab to apprise him the difficulties being faced by trader of city because of issuance of tax/interest notices of Lacs of Rupees by the Excise & Taxation Department, Chandigarh.
Charanjiv Singh, President, CBM said that dealers of Chandigarh are in great trouble due to huge Tax demands of old VAT Assessment cases because of non supply of some C-Forms by the purchasing dealers of other States. Dealers of Chandigarh have delivered the goods and without any fault on their part, they are being forced to pay hefty amount as tax, interest etc.
Baljinder Singh Gujral, Gen. Secy., CBM said that to give relief to the dealers of the State, The Punjab Govt. has declared the one time settlement scheme of outstanding dues of the Punjab Value Added Tax Act, 2005 and Central Sales Tax Act, 1956. As Chandigarh follows the rules and regulation of Punjab, therefore the same one time settlement scheme may please be implemented in Chandigarh also and One Year time may be given for this purpose to the traders for Assessment of cases.
It was also brought to his knowledge that most of the states including Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have already come out with such schemes to give relief to the traders. So Chandigarh traders are also expecting the same. Copy of the Punjab notification was also forwarded to him along with Memorandum. After deliberation, Sh. Banwari Lal Purohit Administrator Chandigarh U.T. was very sympathetic to the issue and promised to discuss the issue with senior officials of Department within day or two. We are expecting positive outcome soon.
