Centuries old rare Indian books and manuscripts displayed at DAV College-10

Library Club RAAH organized the exhibition, the exhibition will run till 8th November

CHANDIGARH, 6 NOVEMBER: Library of DAV College, Sector-10, Chandigarh and RAAH (The Library Club) organised an exhibition on Centuries Old Rare Indian Books and Manuscripts Duly Preserved for Posterity in Indology section. This Indology Section is also named as Lal Chand Research Library which was established in 1917 in Lahore (now in Pakistan). This library was brought to DAV college in 1996 and houses more than 10,000 rare books and more than 8000 manuscripts.

Dr. Navdeep Goyal, Dean Science Faculty, Senate and Syndic, Panjab University, Chandigarh inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon , in the presence of college Principal, Prof. Mrs. Rita Jain, Librarian Dr(Mrs.) Deepti Madaan, Dr(Mrs.) Suman Bharti, member, library committee and staff members. This was followed by the Chief guest and everyone having a look at the wide display of rare books and manuscripts which incorporated the intellectualism of Ancient Indian Scholars. The collection covered multiple domains of knowledge from Astronomy to Religion and so on. Dating back to more than 100 years. The oldest book displayed in the collection was published in the year 1807.

President and Joint Secretary of the RAAH club apprised the dignatries about the History of Lal Chand Research Library and the books displayed. The college faculty members and students are taking keen interest in knowing about this rich ancient Indian knowledge. The exhibition will continue till 8th November 2023
