Preneet Kaur visits Banur families of victims who drowned in HP few days back

Will write to CM urging him to increase the amount of compensation & provide jobs to the family members of the victims – MP Preneet Kaur

CHANDIGARH, 17 AUGUST: Ex-external affairs minister and Patiala MP Preneet Kaur today visited Bazigar Basti in Banur to share her condolences with the families of 7 victims who had lost their lives due to drowning in Gobind Sagar Lake few days ago. Out of the 7, six were mere teenagers and 4 of them belonged to the same family.

Talking to the media after meeting the families the Patiala MP said, “This is totally heart wrenching, I don’t know what to say right now, these families have lost their everything. Loss of such young lives is very saddening.” On the question of compensation Preneet Kaur said, “The Himachal government is providing 4 Lakh compensation to the families, whereas the Punjab government has only announced 1 Lakh compensation for them. They all were citizens of Punjab, so it is our responsibility to take care of them, that’s why I urge the Punjab government to provide them with appropriate compensation.”

Talking further she informed that, “I have just made contact with CMO and have requested them for enhanced compensation and also to provide jobs to 1 family members of the deceased. I will also write a letter to the CM requesting the same.” Elaborating further she said, “The financial conditions of these families are very bad and some of them are also physically handicapped. Providing them some kinds of jobs is very important and I have also talked with the DC in this regard and she has assured me that they are working to provide them employment.”
