PUNJAB OFFERS OPPORTUNTIES TO ITALY TO STRENGTHEN ECONOMIC TIES WITH INDIA

CHANDIGARH, 12 DEC: The scope for collaboration between Italy and Punjab is huge”, said Mr Amit Thapar, Chairman, CII Punjab& President, Ganga Acrowools Ltd at CII Northern Region Headquarters today.

Speaking at the Roundtable on Promoting Businesses between Punjab & Italy at the CII Northern Region Headquarters today, Mr Amit Thapar, Chairman, CII Punjab& President, Ganga Acrowools Ltd shared, “There are five areas in Punjab which Italy should explore textile capital goods, machinery parts, dairy, agriculture, and food processing agri machines” 

He further shared that a common thing between Punjab and Italy is their love for milk products. Punjab has the highest consumption of milk in the country, and livestock & Dairy hold immense potential for industry and trade. About 70 per cent of total Indian migrants in Italy are from Punjab. The majority of them are dairy workers.

Talking about strengthening ties between Punjab and Italy, Mr Dilip Kumar, Principal Secretary, Investment Promotion and Industries & Commerce, Government of Punjab shared that the Punjab industry is interested in witnessing the future of the vision that they have envisaged. “Punjab is a progressive State and is forward-looking. As far as ease of doing business is concerned, we are well-ranked. I would request for further collaboration with Italy. We have a large diaspora of Punjabis in Italy.” He further invited the Italy delegation to the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit scheduled to be held in February 2023.

H E Mr Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy to India shared that the Punjabi community is the highest in Italy. In the last three years despite covid, Italy-India has reached top position in bilateral trade with 13 billion euros of trade in 2022 making Italy India’s third largest partner in European Union. Further, Italy has the highest number of Indians in European Union. Our motive is to promote more business, investment and trade in India. We are prioritising partnership in manufacturing machinery, energy transition, defence and food processing”. The Ambassador further emphasised on collaboration in innovative technology for the development of Dairy sector in Punjab.
