Teachers’ hunger strike continues in DAV College: Hopes to accept their demands in Punjab cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow

CHANDIGARH: Ahead of the Punjab Governments cabinet meeting on 4th January, the teachers protesting under the banner of PFUCTO and PCCTU at DAV College, Chandigarh were hopeful of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi accepting their demands for which they have been struggling since last several months. Continuing with the chain hunger strike for the 34th day today, the teachers marched towards Madhya Marg shouting slogans against the state government for ignoring teachers’ plight. President DAVCTU, Dr. Sumit Goklaney said that the students were noting how their revered teachers and higher education were being treated as a non-priority by the Government. The teachers said that it breaks their heart when they see the precious time of students going waste in the troubled times of the Pandemic, but they were left with no choice as the future of higher education in Punjab was solely dependent on the issues raised in the present struggle.

The following teachers were on the hunger strike today:-
  1. Dr. Rinkey Bali, Dr. Diksha Kakkar & Dr. Kulwinder Kaur (all from GGDSD College, Chandigarh) from 5am-9 am
  2. Dr. Paramjit Singh, Dr. Naveen & Dr Harry (all from GGDSD College, Chandigarh) from 5pm today to 9 am tomorrow.
