Carving of New Vendor Zones in some Markets opposed by the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal

Enforcement against unauthorized Vendors in Sector 17 to be extended up to 9 PM

CHANDIGARH, 6 JULY: Town Vending Committee meeting was held today presided over by Ms. Anandita Mittra, Commissioner in the Conference Hall of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.  

Charanjiv Singh, President, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) opposed the agenda of carving of new Vendor Zones in the Markets specially in the Sectors 24-D, 32-D, 37-D, 41-D with the reason that markets are already congested and it will be difficult to accommodate new Vendors in these Markets. Place where site have been suggested in the agenda is a parking place/footpath which is against provision of the Act. Commissioner assured to send the team to visit sites in the Markets and reconsider the decision. Parking and footpath should remain free from vendors or any other encroachments.   

Sanjeev Chadha, General Secretary, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) raised the issue of Sector 17 Markets where Vendor have again started doing business specially in the evening hours in spite of no Vendor Zone. He suggested that enforcement staff should remain present in Sector 17 up to 9:00 P.M. He also suggested that instead of carving new vendor zones, Vendor should be adjusted in the vacant spaces in existing Vendor Zones as lots of vendors are not paying their dues and also not utilizing it. 

On the compliant of Sector 19-C Traders, Issue of Vendor Zone in Sector 19-C was raised as Vendors are not following byelaws. They have started occupying extra space etc. thus creating hurdles in the entry of Shops and smooth passage of customers. Commissioner assured to send the officials to check the menace.  Agenda of initiating criminal proceedings against illegal/unauthorized Vendors was also approved to control the menace of unauthorized Vendors.
