Chandigarh Beopar Mandal demands Finance Minister to Withdraw proposed 5% GST on unbranded food items

CHANDIGARH, 15 JULY: A delegation of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, consisting of Charanjiv Singh, Ram Karan Gupta, Parshotam Mahajan, Anil Vohra, Sanjeev Chadha, Pritpal Singh Sodhi, Anand Syal, Harjeet Singh and Sanjeev Grover today held a meeting at BJP Office, Sector 33 with Sh. Dushiyant Gautam, MP cum Prabhari BJP Chandigarh and Sh. Arun Sood BJP President Chandigarh and raised demand addressed   to the Finance Minister of India and Govt. of India to immediately withdraw notification of proposed  imposition of 5% GST on unbranded food items.

It was submitted  that since food grains, Wheat, Rice, Pulses, Atta and Curd etc. are the basic needs of general public especially for the poor families which shall become out of reach for them  due to imposition of 5% GST on these food products. Generally the small and medium traders deal in such food items by cleaning and packing at their own end. When all packed and labeled items will be brought under GST making difficult for small traders to compete with the big business houses who sell the goods with their brand name. So it is requested to prevail upon Finance Minister and Govt. of India to withdraw this notification and keep the unbranded packed food items in the exemption list only for the welfare of small traders and poor families who purchase such unbranded items in a big way
