College and University teachers’ agitation against Punjab government continues in Chandigarh: Teachers will sit on a 24-hour hunger strike from tomorrow if the demands are not met

CHANDIGARH: The ongoing protest of the College and University teachers and the Punjab Government entered its 20th day today as part of which a dharna was held at GGDSD College Sec 32 Chandigarh, in which well over 150 teachers participated. The teachers condemned the Punjab Government for not implementing the recommendations of the 7th CPC and delinking the Higher Education in the State from UGC, as well as for being a mute spectator to the demands of the teachers.

The chain hunger strike under the aegis of PFUCTO and PCCTU entered its fifteenth day today with Dr. Shruti Marriya, Dr. Kavita Anandi, Dr. Monica Chopra and Dr. Sapna Jain (all from DAV College, Chandigarh) & Dr. Harneet Kaur (SGGSW Sec 26) sitting for the hunger strike from 9 am to 5 pm, and Dr. Navneet Kumar Pruthi, Dr. Karan Singh Vinayak (PU, Chandigarh) & Prof. Gagan Josan (DAV College, Chandigarh) continuing the strike from 5 pm today to 9 am tomorrow.

As reported earlier, if no steps were taken to address the problem, the protesting teachers have resolved to continue the 24-hour hunger strike Tuesday onwards with 10-women volunteers (5 volunteers each during the day and the night ).
