CHANDIGARH, 22 FEBRUARY: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been provided Z plus security after his release from jail following reports of threats to his life from pro-Khalistan activists. The Haryana government’s decision to provide top-notch security to the guilty sect leader comes after his furlough request was cleared earlier this month and has sparked a lot of controversy.
Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year prison sentence for two female disciples at his ashram and for the murder of a journalist. He was temporarily released from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on a 21-day furlough.
The affidavit submitted in the court by the Haryana State Government mentions that Ram Rahim is not a ‘Hardcore prisoner’, who has already been convicted for rape and murder. The Haryana government has argued that Ram Rahim did not commit the murders, but was a co-conspirator.
In the Z-Plus security category, people get 10 security personnel for mobile security and two (plus eight) for residence security. National Security Guard commandos provides Z-plus level security.
