Teachers’ hunger strike in DAV College Chandigarh continues for the 20th day, said – will not arise till the demands are not met

CHANDIGARH: In the backdrop of the PCCTU leadership deciding to meet the National and the State leadership of AICC with regard to the agitating teachers’ demands, and assurances from the Punjab Government about including this agenda in the forthcoming Cabinet Meeting on 28th December, the teachers continued with their chain hunger strike at DAV College Chandigarh amid a boycott of all academic and administrative works that began at the beginning of this month. The teachers who are sitting on a hunger strike in batches during the day and the night said they will not relent until the Government’s decision to delink the teachers’ payscales from the UGC was not revoked, besides implementing the 7th CPC in the state as done by the rest of the country.

The teachers said that they have been left with no other options but to boycott their duties & leave the comforts of their homes in the chilly winters to sit on a hunger strike indefinitely, as all other means of making their voice heard by the state government has failed to yield any positive outcome.

Today Dr. Reena Parti, Dr. Sarabjit & Dr. Savneet Kaur (all from GGS Khalsa College for Women Sec 26) sat on the hunger strike during the day (9 am – 5 pm) and Dr. Neeraj Chamoli, Dr. Karan Vinayak & Dr. Raman Kamboj (all from DAV College Chandigarh) sat on the hunger strike during the night (5 pm today – 9 am tomorrow).
